How does it work?

Your skills and expertise will be matched against the participating Charities and Not-For-Profit business requirements/initiatives. You will be part of a team of 4-5 Project Managers / Business Analysts and assigned to a Charity or Not-For-Profit. An induction and networking evening will be held prior to PMDoS and an information pack will be provided to you in advance, including a fact sheet of your allocated charities initiative.

Each Charity or Non- Profit can send up to two representatives that will speak to the specific initiative they wish to tackle on the day. Seated at the same table, you will work to deliver a solution to the challenge identified. We have organised a team of New Zealand’s leading project management experts who will support teams throughout the day.

I have a colleague who’d like to volunteer their project management experience on the day. Can they put their hand up for this?

PMDOS is primarily for PMI New Zealand chapter members and our partners. But yes, we welcome other members of the New Zealand project community. We are keen to get business analysts and other business consultants involved in the day too.

Why should I volunteer my time to PMDOS?

Here are just some of the reasons:

• Tangibly serve your community by giving them a day of your time and expertise to help them define solutions to their issues
• Enhance the status of PMI New Zealand chapter and its members as a community, business, and professional resource
• Maintain your professional standing by earning up to 9.5 Professional Development Units (PDUs)
• Redefine project management as an “intentional profession”
• Promote the value of project management to charities by clarifying its unique value proposition
• Increase visibility of the project management profession
• Expand your network by working with like-minded professionals
• Build on your resume and strengthen your career
• Promote your personal brand on social media

What is my commitment as a consultant?

• Attend a training and networking session approximately two weeks prior to PMDoS
• As part of the consulting team, you will be required to research and prepare for the day .
• Ensure you will definitely be able to attend and have manager approval if required.
• Payment of the registration fees (details TBC once confirmed)
Agree to a consultant Statement of Commitment.
• Deliver your client the artefacts that will support their goals and advance their endeavours to the next level.

Why do you charge consultants & what does the cost include?

The registration cost covers the cost of all meals and refreshments for the full day. Please approach your employer who may be able to reimburse the registration cost.

As an indication we expect fees to be $45 for PMI members and $70 for non-members. Once your application is confirmed you will receive further details regarding payment.

Do I get PDU’s for my PMP?

Yes – 9.5 PDU’s will automatically be assigned to your certification should you attend both training and the PMDOS.

When do applications close?

Consultant places (Project Manager, Business Analyst and student) are limited and filled on a rolling basis depending on needed roles to match the number of non-profits confirmed. We recommend you apply ASAP to ensure you do not miss out on this great opportunity!

What happens after the PMDOS event?

There are no commitments after PMDOS. If you would like to continue to work with a charity or not-for-profit organization at the conclusion of the event, please contact the PMDOS Organising team.

As a registered consultant what do I need to prepare?

Once you have been told about the organisation you will be working for you can start to review their Initiative Statement to learn about the issues they are facing. Research the organisation and/or have a conference call/coffee with them before the event to get started on your ideas.

What can I bring?

Should I bring food and drink?

Not necessary! There is a morning tea, buffet lunch, and afternoon tea included in the registration fee. Coffee, tea and water will be provided throughout the day. If you are strict vegetarian/vegan please contact us via the form on the PMDOS About page with your requirements so we allocate the correct amount on the day.
