The Project Management Institute of New Zealand (PMINZ) has announced the winners of the 2025 NZ Project Management Awards, celebrating outstanding achievement and leadership in project delivery across Aotearoa.
The Awards took place on Wednesday 21 May at the Aotea Centre in Auckland. Finalists were recognised across eight categories spanning construction, technology, sustainability, public sector delivery, and professional achievement.
“This year’s winners exemplify the very best of project delivery in Aotearoa,” said Carol Speirs, President of PMINZ. “They represent the talent, innovation, and resilience driving progress across the country – from digital transformation to infrastructure and sustainability. We’re proud to celebrate their achievements and the impact they make on both the profession and the nation.”
A standout winner on the night was the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) Programme, which won both Technology Project of the Year and Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year. Led by the New Zealand Customs Service, the NZTD project significantly improved border processing, enabling travellers to meet entry requirements through a streamlined, digital-first approach.
Sharon May, Deputy Chief Executive, Enterprise Services at New Zealand Customs, said:
“It was a pleasure to attend these awards on behalf of Customs. There’s a lot of work that happens across all agency teams to enable legitimate travel into New Zealand.
“Being recognised and winning the award for Technology Project of the Year and for Project Management Office of the Year highlights the success of inter-agency collaboration.
“We leveraged existing technology and brought together the requirements of multiple government agencies into a single digital system. The result is a unified digital customer experience and a strong foundation for future border requirements.
“I’m proud of the NZTD programme and the team members from Customs, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Ministry for Primary Industries and the Ministry of Health who made this possible.”
