“Ika Rere” (Flying fish) – building the first high speed electric ferry in the southern hemisphere.

Ika Rere is a 19M carbon composite displacement passenger ferry fully powered by 5544kg of Lithium iron batteries, the project has been intense and at times very difficult, there are many areas where the team developed new technology and procedures to complete the build to NZ & international survey requirements. The project has exceeded the designers, electrical engineers, builders & clients expectations.

About Fraser Foote

I have been a boat builder my whole life and have been fortunate to work on a huge variety of projects from small speed boats, America`s cup projects, super yachts and “skunk works” projects. My biggest achievement is building displacement catamarans, firstly for the designer Malcolm Tennant and more lately for SSC marine, this electric boat is my 27th displacement power cat project. I live here in Wellington with my partner Shelly who owns & runs a radio station. My interests include keeping reasonably fit and driving a V8 jet boat.
